Dmitry Patrushev: the Agriculture Ministry is refining veterinary rules for keeping poultry
The draft new veterinary rules for keeping birds for breeding, rearing and sale will be revised, Russian Agriculture Minister Dmitry Patrushev said at a meeting with representatives of the People’s Farmer association in Chuvashia.

Among other provisions, the draft new rules would ban unrestricted outdoor access for farm birds, Veterinary Medicine and Life previously reported. Many industry representatives consider this requirement excessive, particularly for private household farms and the development of ecological farming.

The Agriculture Minister recalled that the current version of the veterinary rules for keeping birds remains in force until 1 September 2025, and that the rules need to be improved to protect against dangerous diseases. The Agriculture Ministry is revising the draft together with the industry and is awaiting specific proposals from farmers that take account of the need to ensure biosecurity. ‘The key word is draft. These rules have not yet been approved,’ the minister stressed.
