The Khabarovsk breeding poultry plant produces around 520,000 table eggs a day for sale to consumers. Eggs of different grades are supplied throughout the region and to Primorye Territory. The enterprise began modernization in the summer, starting with its plumbing.
“The poultry farm’s management decided to replace the water supply system. We all know that our farm has been operating for many years and will celebrate an anniversary next year, and water is essential for both birds and people,” said Olga Merenkova, general director of Khabarovsky Breeding Poultry Plant JSC.
The upgrades continued with reconstruction of the parent-stock unit. In six months, the enterprise will be able to increase hatching-egg production and, in the future, supply breeding poultry throughout the Far East.
The enterprise purchases birds in Sverdlovsk Region and grain in Amur Region and Khabarovsk District. Its egg packaging is also domestically produced. Sanctions have caused difficulties at the farm only with veterinary medicines. Russian products account for 80% of vaccines; the remainder are imported. Alternatives to these have not yet been found.
“There is a disease called haemophilosis. Vaccines against it are not produced in Russia; they are only imported. But we have room to manoeuvre here. Since the disease has a bacterial cause, we can readily use antibiotics instead, even if supplies of this vaccine stop,” explained Tina Katarskaya, deputy general director for veterinary affairs at Khabarovsky Breeding Poultry Plant JSC.
The region has two egg-producing enterprises, in Khabarovsk and Komsomolsk. Together they produce more than 330 million eggs annually. The region currently meets 85% of its own demand for this product. Specialists say modernization will help achieve full egg self-sufficiency.
“In time, as our poultry farms continually modernize, improve production technologies and use high-quality feed, I think we will be able to achieve the desired results,” emphasized Alyona Selezneva, acting head of the Agro-Industrial Development Directorate at the Khabarovsk Territory Ministry of Agriculture.
The Khabarovsk breeding poultry plant is also working to expand its product range. It plans to produce liquid melange, a pasteurized egg mixture that can be used for omelettes or baked goods. In November, melange will go on sale in containers of various capacities, both wholesale and retail.
