Russia’s poultry-meat market has developed a “colossal surplus”, according to the National Poultry Union. In the first four months of this year alone, enterprises in the sector increased output by more than 8%, representing an additional 160,000 tonnes of poultry meat.
This was reported by Sergei Lakhtyukhov, general director of the National Poultry Union (NPS), at a forum on the investment potential of agriculture in the Far East. Despite this substantial surplus, however, the country still imports poultry meat. According to Lakhtyukhov, a significant proportion of imports goes to the Far Eastern regions.
In terms of poultry-sector development, the Far East is attractive primarily for its export potential. Its strategic advantage lies in the ability to ship products abroad by rail amid a crisis in maritime transport caused by a shortage of containers.
Over the past two years, China accounted for more than half of all poultry-meat exports. Vietnam is now joining this market, and active efforts have also begun to promote Russian poultry products in Malaysia and Indonesia, the NPS general director noted.
