According to Rosselkhoznadzor’s Argus Federal State Information System, overseas shipments of live animals, sheep and goat meat, prepared meat products and edible offal increased substantially in the first quarter of 2024, the agency reports.
Exports of farm animals increased 2.2-fold compared with the first quarter of 2023. Cattle shipments rose 6.8-fold. In particular, cattle supplies to Georgia increased 29-fold year on year, and those to Kazakhstan rose 17.5-fold.
Georgia also became one of the main importers of pigs from Russia. Shipments increased 1.3-fold compared with the same period in 2023.
Belarus and Vietnam purchased significant volumes of Russian pork in the first quarter. Shipments of this meat to Serbia increased substantially, by a factor of 2.6.
Exports of sheep and goats increased 3.4-fold. Lebanon was the main buyer in this category. Shipments of sheep and goat meat surged 2.4-fold. Iran retained its position as the leading importer of these meats in the first quarter.
Overseas shipments of prepared meat products increased 1.5-fold. Kazakhstan was the largest importer in this category. Exports of edible offal also increased, driven by a 1.7-fold rise in purchases by Vietnam.
Poultry meat accounts for large shipment volumes, with China, Saudi Arabia and Kazakhstan purchasing it.
Kazakhstan remained the largest buyer of Russian dairy products in the first quarter. It increased purchases 1.3-fold compared with the same period in 2023. Shipments to Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan rose 2.5-fold and 1.6-fold respectively, Rosselkhoznadzor notes.
